Ollie McDonald, in whose memory this show is dedicated, was gifted with a magnificent tenor voice. Although he never gained fame or fortune from his gift, he volunteered his talent to many events, brightening the lives of those who heard him sing. He shared his talent by singing the "Star Spangled Banner" at the Special Olympics, performing at the San Bernardino Fifth Street Senior Center Fashion Show Extravaganza, participating in the national Very Special Arts Fair, volunteering at the City Cultural Center, and helping people in general. In 1944, Ollie auditioned for the National Grand Opera winning first place out of a field of 5,000. Later he was a stand-in singer for Lawrence Tibett of the National Opera. In 1988, Ollie McDonald Senior Talent Showcase was born.
